Rose water and beauty

A distillate obtained directly from the petals of flowers, through vaporization, and which can also be easily made at home: rose water is a remedy of ancient beauty, which our grandmothers certainly already knew well. A miraculous product, not only for personal care (it soothes toothache and helps to alleviate headaches), but also and above all for the beauty of our skin, thanks to its astringent, anti-age, soothing and also refreshing properties . But what are the uses in aesthetics of rose water? Let's find out how to use this precious distillate!

Properties and uses of rose water:

Rich in vitamins (from groups A, B, C and E), rose water has a tonic and antioxidant effect on our skin. It is perfect for dry skin, as an anti-wrinkle ingredient, and can also act as a sebum regulator for the scalp.

Use for the skin:

  • Rose water soothes redness on the face and helps prevent (and cure) acne. The properties of rose water are also antibacterial and astringent, and help regulate the production of sebum on the skin of the face.
  • For this reason, rose water is a perfect astringent tonic, to be passed over the face with a cotton pad, after removing make-up in the evening and before make-up in the morning.
  • Its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties make rose water ideal not only for acne and roasting, but also for small ulcers, canker sores and rosacea.
  • It is perfect to deflate dark circles, and to fight tired eyes for too much work or excessive use of the PC. Just wet two cotton pads with rose water, put them in the fridge for about an hour, and then apply them to your closed eyes, holding them up for at least 20 minutes.
  •  The draining and lightening effect for bags and dark circles is guaranteed.
  • Rose water also prevents wrinkles, thanks to the vitamins that counteract free radicals, and which are naturally present in the petals and leaves of roses. It also helps to reduce skin spots: just apply it with a warm cloth, dabbing gently before applying your moisturizer.

Use for hair:

Did you know that rose water is also allied with the beauty and vitality of our hair? Yes, it helps to regularize the sebum in the scalp, allowing you to rebalance greasy hair, and also prevents excessive hair loss, by freeing the skin from waste and impurities. Obviously, it is an excellent cleanser, and can be used before shampooing. Just apply it, pure or diluted, on damp and towel-dried hair, and let it work for at least 20 minutes, then proceed with your own shampoo. Thanks to vitamins A, B3, E, rose water deeply moisturizes the hair, leaving it clean and strong, as well as very fragrant and very soft!

How to prepare rose water:

  • Once you've discovered the many uses of rose water in cosmetics, the good news is that we can prepare it at home, with just a few ingredients and in just a few steps. Let's see how:
  • First of all, we will put 1/2 kilo of rose petals (preferably red or dark pink), in 1/2 liter of distilled water, and bring to a boil over high heat.
  • As soon as the water begins to boil, we will have to cover the pot and cook the mixture again on a low heat for another 15 minutes.
  • After 15 minutes, cover the container and let it cool, then adding fragrant essential oils. Lavender oil will have a relaxing and soothing effect, and will be perfect for an evening beauty routine. Instead, lemon or neroli oil will be suitable for a routine energizing and vitamin morning.
  • Then the whole mixture is filtered, put into a glass bottle and kept in the fridge, to be consumed within three months.
